Critical Pixels... huh?!

I don't claim to be a good writer or that insightful, but it does happen to be the two things that I really like doing. Hopefully we get to share some thoughts together around the crazy concept that is art.

Perhaps we'll be enlightened and less apathetic to crazy world we live in. Perhaps we'll go beyond reactionary responses and move towards active engagement with tough issues...

I'm crazy enough to think that part of the answer lies within ART...

ibeg4justice.blogspot.com

What do you do when injustice plays out on your door step?

What do you do when no else seems to doing anything about it?

Well, my mate and I are doing something about it!

Auckland City Council has recently made it illegal to beg in the CBD. Now, don't get us wrong, the last thing we want to see is people begging for the rest of their lives but the reality, for now at least, is that it is the only way they can survive.

So what are we doing? We are going to be launching a campaign to help raise funds for the homeless, and to arouse the public mind of the realities homeless people face.

The site is still under construction but look back in the coming weeks to see what's happening!

Some more art with shadows...this time by Kumi Yamashita

In somewat of a contrast to Ellis Gallaghers style and philosophy, the street as his primary studio, Kumi's work is almost always found in a galleries. This is not to say that here work is not phenomenal, it's brilliant! But I do prefer Ellis' work as he manages to get everyday people thinking about art in the street, where as only a select few ever go into galleries and art exhibitions... Just my opinion anyway.

You can find some of Yamashita's work on her website: kumiyamashita.com/

That concludes this post. If you find anymore shadow artist worth noting please let me know.

Shadow Art by Ellis Gallagher...

I just have to share this with you! Ellis G is a phenomenal artist in that he has transformed the simple nature of shadows into art. Light and shadows are a few things that I'm exploring at the moment so its refreshing to see someone else elevate and express themselves through this medium.

Enjoy!

Next I will be sharing about Kumi Yamashita and her work with light and shadows.

Explorations in Light...

Ok so I haven't quite had the time to scour the internet for interesting pieces yet, but I have done some creation of my own.

At the moment its just a concept, but I quite like light and the resulting shadows.

Below is my first exploration of light it kind of just happened :D

This is currently in my room above my bed...

Toilet roll cardboard cylinders are fascinating art tools. What makes it even better is that I haven't seen it anywhere else! Yes, that gets me excited...

So, I'm thinking how do I develop this... and immediately my mind meanders to, http://www.treesatmeteor.co.nz/page/14-Home , a christmas tree decorating competition... Can you see where this going? :D

Yes, you guessed it, I'm going to enter into the recycling section and make a tree using toilet roll cardboard cylinders and a light...

I'll keep you posted...

Street Art and Culture Jamming...

If I am fortunate enough to see first hand culture jamming in my neighbourhood I'll most definitely be sharing it with you! I am also a big fan of street art, no not vandalism and tagging, the kind that makes you stop or makes you wish the train stopped either way if it crosses my path I'll be sure to let you know...

Art and Design...

This will be more of a side project in terms of the make up of this blog. But I will share and give my thoughts on some of the things I come across... especially in the digital arena...

Movies...

Basically I have been watching so many movies and have gotten so much out of them that I really feel like sharing some of that stuff and seeing whether other people have noticed or perhaps not noticed the things I have.

Who knows? We'll see I guess...
